Team1 overcame djakuyu in the grand final of the WESG 2018 Ukraine Finals 2-1 (14-16 Inferno, 16-11 Train, 16-9 Mirage) to secure a spot at the WESG 2018 World Finals.
djakuyu, a mix of Vega Squadron, Spirit and pro100 players made it to the grand finals of WESG Ukraine, a LAN event held in Kiev, undefeated. In the match that decided who would go to the WESG 2018 World Finals, they took on Team1, another mix team. The two sides met in the opening match of the tournament, where djakuyu took a 2-1 victory, but were set for a rematch as Team1 fought back through the lower bracket.
The opening map of the series was Inferno, where rounds were traded back-and-forth at the start before Team1 stabilized on the CT side, securing a 6-3 lead. Finishing the half with a 10-5 advantage and adding a pistol round to their name saw Sergey "starix" Ischuk and co. go up 13-5, being on the verge of victory. That is where Dmitriy "jR" Chervak hit a higher gear and started pulling things back for his team, eventually tieing things together at 14-14. In the end, Team1 wasn't able to close out the deal, losing Inferno 16-14 to go down in the series.
Team1 secured the T pistol on Train to start 3-0, but jR's double entry with the AWP in the first buy round quickly turned the game around and his side took a 4-3 lead. Key in his team establish themselves on the offensive side was Sergey "smike" Sklyarenko, who managed an AWP ace in round 10, which Team1 built on to finish the half 9-6 up. After the switch, they once again won the pistol to extend their lead, but this time, despite jR having another strong map, djakuyu wasn't able to make a comeback on Train. (16-11)
On Mirage, Team1 took hold of the game early on, with Vladyslav "arch" Svistov leading in the fragging department for his team. The score was 10-2 before djakuyu managed to put together three on the defense, ending the CT side trailing 10-5. Taking another pistol round in the series got them on the verge of victory, and this time, they closed it out fairly simply, 16-9.
